Spring time feelings in the middle of December

I love Dolly Partons song “Christmas to Remember”…and no matter what holiday you celebrate this month there is nothing like ‘Spring time feelings in the middle of December’! I used my chocolate coated sunflower seeds to create this little spring time garden…its really cold outside and these little treats will stay blooming inside my warm house.

Sunflower seeds… an Aahmazing decorating candy

I discovered a new embellishment today: Sunflower seeds. They are not just plain seeds though they are such colorful and tasty little things. The package said “Sunflower seeds drenched in cocoa & coated with a candy shell”….Ok, I was sold, so I bought a package to use on my chocolate covered marshmallows.
I made adorable flowers….

And here is another. I like the 5 petal flower the best.

Spring time feelings in the Fall

Here is a little burst of Spring time right in the middle of Fall! I loved this bouquet of Mums outside. The flowers are in full bloom and the stems are firm so I placed my delectable treat right in the middle of the arrangement. The chocolate curvature on this marshmallow is flawless and the blue eggs perfectly egg shaped.

Venus Flytrap Science

I’m not sure what made me try to make this little plant on top of my chocolate covered marshmallow. Perhaps it is the fly that whizzed into the house this afternoon. I molded two flat pieces of fondant together and perched them up on a log roll of fondant and it stayed upright quite nicely. I put a small pink bead fondant in the middle of the trap (do these plants have tongues’?) The Venus Flytrap is quite an amazing plant and they really do exist in certain swamps and bogs. The trap part of the plant stays open until a spider or insect lands inside, if the prey triggers more than two of the plants ‘hairs’ with movement then the two leaves snap shut trapping the prey for digestion. Interesting, and now everyone has learned something new!

Forget-Me-Nots

This marshmallow was made in memory of 9/11. We all remember where we were when the news struck, and the feelings we felt…. I know I will never forget it. I created this tiny bouquet of pale blue forget-me-not flowers and tied the bunch with a red fondant ribbon. I made each petal by rolling out teeny tiny bits of fondant and putting them together.

A Happy Flower

A happy little flower…blooming! There was gorgeous sunshine all day today and it made this little pot start to bud.  This latest bag of marshmallows is full of wonky marshmallows, they weren’t crushed in the bag but they are not as uniform and cylindrical as they normally are. I’ll make do though. The chocolate curvature was setting on the marshmallow all wonky, but the thicker I laid the candy coating the more uniform it looks. I can see the irregularities but they still taste great.

The smell of roses and marshmallows...sweeeet!

Awww, I received flowers! I immediately opened the card and put the bouquet into a glass vase. What a wonderful way to brighten up a rainy day! I have them displayed in the center of the room and they smell fantastic. Todays marshmallow is a sweet little hand-molded fondant butterfly to flutter about the petals of the roses. First, I colored the fondant and pressed it flat. I cut out the shape of the butterfly and folded it in half and set it on the edge of a small box to dry and harden so it would stay in the open ‘flying’ position. Then I secured the little dots on with a few dabs of water and placed on a few leaves. I made the veins of the leaves with my Showtime #15 knife and glued the butterfly into place with some chocolate curvature left in my piping bag. This sure does cheer up a rainy day, and I love the colors in this picture!

Botanical Bliss

As many of you know my garden doesn’t have as many colors as it should or that I would like, so its up to me to put the color there the best way I know how… with marshmallows! It was another gorgeous day and I made a perfect setting of marshmallows with handmade flowers on top. I’ll cut these beauties tonight and display them as a botanical masterpiece (and then of course devour!).

Simple sunny flowers

It was a perfect blue sky sunny day today and I made this little sunflower-like flower. I tried to design the petals to curve upward so it would not look too cartoony. I have on my to-list to go buy a metal fondant ball-roller that will help me create more sophisticated flower petals. They cost almost $50 for the tiny little tool… but it will be a welcome addition to my marshmallow making craft.

Feng Shui

I’ve been interested in rearranging my living room to make it a little cozier. I have already moved my larger sofa and the love seat closer and put a soft leather ottoman chest between the two and it looks great. I’m searching for some additional pieces of décor to help spruce it up and bring it together. Something Feng Shui to liven up the space and bring life to my earthy toned fabrics. I saw several fake plants at the store however, I felt ‘fake plants’ would contradict my attempts to try to bring light and ‘life’ to my living room.  What I had in mind was this bamboo type plant in a vase or pot……..

Purple Flower

This is a simple flower I made today, I was a bit rushed so my petals are much thicker and cartoonish than they should be, and as I post this I realize I forgot the green leaves…a fondant flower faux pas.   As soon as work was finished (is it ever really ‘finished?’) I mixed the colorants to create some purple petals and used a piece of yellow bead fondant for the center. Then I ran it outside for a quick pic in the garden area. Unfortunately, after the quick shoot I dropped it in the dirt which sadly rendered it un-edible… :(

Roses on a warm day

The sun was shining so bright and warm today. I looked over the deck and I felt bad that my garden was mostly greens (and some browns).  I decided to create some color and give a little life to my garden, even if just momentarily.  The marshmallow I made today is a real beauty. I carefully brought this lovely rose outside to sit in the garden bed to bloom and catch some sun. I pressed each red petal flat and thin to create a realistic delicate rose and strategically placed it atop the sweet marshmallow. The rose sits perfectly in bloom and the white curvature is flawless making it a perfect piece of marshmallow art.

Betty Crocker Easy Writers - On Marshmallows

Today was such a warm gorgeous day outside. I didn’t feel like heating up the chocolate curvature again so I decided to keep up with the painted designs versus the chocolate and fondant designs. I created something simple to share with neighbors to be devoured outside after dinner.  For the first time I used Betty Crocker Easy Writer Food Decorators.  I thought they were going to be PENS....that I could write with, however, they were more like paint brushes… quite thick paint brushes, actually. I liked them though and made adorable flowers. The brush was too thick to make any type of fine detail possible, so I decided to stick with simple large petals on the sides, tops and bottom of my treats.  The package says they can be used on “..cakes, cupcakes, even fruits and vegetables such as apples and mashed potatoes.” Perhaps I should write to Betty and let her know they are totally awesome on marshmallows, too!
